Dear Parents and Carers,
A huge welcome to our Year 4 – Jays class page! We are so excited to begin a fantastic year of learning, challenge and growth together.
Here you’ll find all the key information about life in Year 4, including our topics, routines and expectations. Year 4 is an important year — children develop greater independence, deepen their understanding across the curriculum and build real confidence, especially in core skills like reading, writing and times tables.
If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I am really looking forward to working with you and your children this year — it’s going to be a brilliant one!
Kind regards,
Miss Edwards

🌟 Helpful Reminders
P.E. Day: Wednesday – children should come to school wearing their P.E. kit.
Please ensure your child brings a clearly labelled water bottle each day.
All uniform and P.E. kit must be clearly labelled with your child’s name.
Children may bring a healthy snack for break time if they wish.
Homework is set on Friday and due in on Tuesday.
This will alternate between Maths and English, alongside weekly spellings.
Please encourage your child to practise regularly on Times Tables Rock Stars — confidence with times tables makes a huge difference across the Maths curriculum.
Each child has a Bug Club account with allocated reading books that we monitor and adjust.
Purple Mash is also available to support learning across different subjects.
The school expectation is that children read at least three times per week at home — regular reading makes a significant difference to progress.
💬 Communication & Celebration
We use Class Dojo throughout the week to award reward points and celebrate effort, positive behaviour and fantastic work. Stories are shared regularly with photos of the brilliant learning taking place in our classroom, so you can see your child in action. Please check Dojo often to stay connected and celebrate their achievements.
Year 4 is a year of growing independence, resilience and ambition. With high expectations and strong support, our Jays will spread their wings and soar. 🐦✨
