Dear Parents and Carers,

A very warm welcome to our Year 3 – SENSATIONAL Skylarks class page! We are so excited to begin this next stage of learning with you and your child.

On this page, you’ll find key information about our topics, expectations and what life in Year 3 looks like. Moving into Key Stage 2 is a big and exciting step — children grow in independence, responsibility and confidence, and we support them every step of the way.

If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I am very much looking forward to working with you this year. Your child is going to LOVE being part of the SENSATIONAL Skylarks!

🕊 A Day in the Life of a Skylark

Our school day begins between 8:30am and 8:45am and finishes at 3:20pm. Here’s what a typical day looks like:

• 8:30am – Gate opens. Children enter through the class door and begin early morning activities.

• 8:45am – Assembly.

• 9:00am – Maths.

• 10:00am – Guided Reading.

• 10:45am – Snack and break time.

• 11:00am – English.

• 12:00pm – Lunchtime.

• 1:00pm – Registration and reading.

• 1:15pm – Foundation subject session.

• 2:15pm – Second foundation subject session.

• 3:00pm – Tidy up and class story.

• 3:20pm – Home time.

Year 3 is about building strong learning habits, developing resilience and encouraging children to take pride in their work. We aim to create a classroom where children feel challenged, supported and inspired every day.

🌟 Helpful Reminders

• P.E. Day: Friday – please ensure your child brings their school P.E. kit.

• Bring a clearly labelled water bottle daily.

• Ensure all uniform is labelled with your child’s full name.

• Book bags should be brought in every day (we have a safe place to store them).

• Please send your child in with a healthy snack for morning break if they would like one.

📚 Reading & Homework

• Homework is sent home on Friday and should be returned by Tuesday.

• Spellings and handwriting tasks will be stuck into books — please encourage your child to complete these carefully.

• A BUG CLUB book will be allocated every Friday and should be returned by Tuesday.

  • Please sign the reading log and add any comments.

  • Children are expected to read weekly, with expectations increasing as the term progresses.

• BUG CLUB, Phonics Hero, Purple Mash and TTRS login details are in the front of your child’s homework book.

💬 Communication & Celebration

We use Class Dojo to award reward points and celebrate positive behaviour, effort and achievements. Stories are shared each day with photos of the fantastic learning happening in our classroom, so you can see your child in action and celebrate their successes at home. Please check regularly to stay connected.
