Dear Parents and Carers,
A very warm welcome to our Year 5 – Outstanding Owls class page!
Here you will find everything you need to know about life in Year 5 — from our curriculum topics and daily routines to expectations and key reminders. Year 5 is an exciting and important year. Children grow in independence, maturity and responsibility as they move further up Key Stage 2. We challenge them to think deeply, work collaboratively and take real pride in their achievements.
If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I am genuinely looking forward to working with your children this year and helping them reach their full potential. It’s going to be a fantastic year in Owls Class.
Mr Taylor

10:00am – Guided Reading.
10:45am – Break time.

Year 5 lessons focus on developing deeper understanding, strong reasoning skills and resilience when tackling challenges. We expect children to increasingly take ownership of their learning while continuing to feel supported and encouraged.
Homework is set every Friday and includes both Maths and English.
Homework is due in on Tuesday so it can be marked and feedback provided promptly.
Regular reading at home is essential. This can include:
Bug Club books
Library books
A personal reading book of choice
The more children read, the more confident and fluent they become — across all subjects.
P.E. Day: Thursday – please ensure your child brings their full P.E. kit.
Children may bring a roll-on deodorant if needed.
Please ensure all uniform and P.E. kit is clearly labelled.
A clearly labelled water bottle should be brought in daily.
We use Class Dojo to award reward points and recognise effort, positive attitudes and excellent work. Stories are shared regularly with photos of the fantastic learning happening in our classroom, giving you a window into daily life in Owls. Please check Dojo frequently to celebrate your child’s successes and stay up to date with key messages.
Year 5 is a year of ambition, leadership and preparation for the final steps of primary school. With high expectations, encouragement and teamwork between home and school, our Outstanding Owls will truly soar. 🦉✨
