Bitterne Manor Primary School

Uniform

At Bitterne Manor, we work hard to create a warm, welcoming sense of community where everyone feels they belong.

We encourage all children to wear school uniform because it looks smart, helps give our school a clear identity, and supports that shared feeling of belonging.  School uniform is compulsory.

We also believe that both staff and children should dress appropriately for the activities they are taking part in, so everyone is comfortable, confident and ready to learn.

Our school uniform is bottle green, grey and white as follows:

Jewellery and Hair

The safety and wellbeing of our pupils is always our first priority.

Children may wear:

  • One pair of plain stud earrings (no other piercings are permitted)

  • A sensible wristwatch (smartwatches linked to mobile phones are not allowed)

Jewellery remains the responsibility of the pupil. The school cannot accept responsibility for any lost or damaged items.

All jewellery must be removed for practical lessons, including PE and science. To make this easier, we kindly ask that earrings are not worn on PE days. If this is not possible, please provide tape to cover them, as school is unable to supply this.

If your child wears jewellery for religious or cultural reasons, please let us know in writing so we can support this appropriately.

For health and safety reasons, long hair must be tied back during practical lessons such as PE. We also recommend that shoulder-length or longer hair is tied up or plaited during the school day to keep it neat and help reduce the spread of head lice.

PE Kit:

For hygiene and safety reasons, children need to change for PE. Please ensure your child brings:

  • Plain white T-shirt (school logo optional)

  • Plain blue, red, yellow or green T-shirt (in house colours)

  • Plain black shorts or plain black tracksuit bottoms

  • Suitable white or black trainers

  • Named drawstring PE bag (available from the school office, if needed)

If you prefer not to buy optional branded PE items, please ensure clothing is plain and free from logos/branding from professional sports teams.

For outdoor games in colder weather, children should also bring:

  • A plain tracksuit top and bottoms (suitable for outdoor activity)

Swimming (Year 5)

Children will need:

  • A towel

  • A suitable swimming costume

Labelling

Please make sure all clothing and footwear are clearly labelled with your child’s name. This makes it much easier to return misplaced items.

Please Do Not Send Children Wearing

To support safety and maintain school standards, please avoid sending children to school wearing:

  • Unsuitable footwear (e.g., high heels or flip flops)

  • Make-up or nail varnish

  • Excessive hair gel

  • Jewellery, as this must be removed for practical lessons (including PE)
