Let’s recap all the sounds on the sound mat as we have now learnt all of these! Look at your phonics sound mat and go through each sound saying ‘My sound is… my name is…’ and show the action for each sound. Remember two letters together making one sound is a digragh (e.g. sh). Three letters together make a trigraph (e.g. igh).
Now Look at the beach scene on the sheet attached below. Find the ‘sh’ words. Can you add the sound buttons to the words and read them?
Beach word hunt
Now play ‘Phonics spin the bottle’. Ask an adult to write the sound ‘th’ on a piece of paper or card. On another to write ‘sh’ and another ‘ch’. Put these out in a circle and a plastic bottle in the middle. Spin the bottle and say the sound it stops at. You can play again but using words containing the sounds rather than just sound cards.
Here are some suggested words for this game-
th- thank, that, thorn, thin, then, them
sh- shell, ship, shut, shed, sheep, cash, bash
ch- check, chat, chill, chimp, church
If you would rather, try this sheet. Look at the following sheet. Circle the words with the ‘th’ sound. Have a go at reading some of the words. Read it with someone else in your home.
